History of Egbu and coronation of Mitchell Egbukole as Ochoromma VI

 

It was a great history made on the 29TH of August 2020, at Egbu autonomous community in Owerri-North local government area in Imo state, as a new crown king known as HRH.Eze Mitchell Uchenna Egbukole 
(Ochoromma Vi of Egbu) was coronated at his palace, 


which was witnessed by the chairman of traditional rulers in Owerri zone, HRH.Eze Akujorobi of Awaka, government dignitaries and religious priests of God.  But he is yet to be presented to the Imo state governor Hope Uzodinma and interim transition committee local government chairman, as women, youths trooped out in mass with their traditional masquerade groups to pledge their home age and loyalty to their king HRH.Eze Mitchelle Uchenna Egbukole ochoromma the sixth because for the past 
3 years Egbu have been without a king since the demise of their late king HRH.Eze.Nwanna Egbukole 
(ochoromma V of Egbu).  



Mitchelle thanked everybody for their support, he said " This is the day the Lord have made and we will be glad indeed".  He went further to ask for forgiveness from those that he offended and those that contested with him and asked them to come together because with their support Egbu will be great again.

   


According to the history of Egbu community,it started since 18TH century and the trend of kingship in Egbu dynasty have always come from the family of Egbukole, who are his direct sons and nobody from Egbu is given these titles nze and chief as their system of ranking in leadership starts from the president general, Oha Egbu,Obilolobi and kindred chairmen.   



Egbu is made up of have five communities, which is dominated by Anglican church and other religious bodies, with people from different cultural backgrounds in Nigeria.
It is one of the communities that make up alaenyi communities according to their origin as their traditional deity of worship is a python commonly known in Igbo language as Eke, and their traditional market is afor-Egbu.  Egbu is surrounded by a river known as Otamirim Egbu, were white sand is been excavated and have a connection with the river Niger. 



Educational back ground is blessed with great people from different fields of endeavor both in Nigeria and oversees.   The have thirty five professors and PHD holders as some of the well known personality is chairman of MTN and former CEO of Diamond bank plc professor pascal Dozie.
