Emekuku marked 2018 annual Uguzo cultural festival
The 2018 annual uguzo cultural festival was marked on 13th of November 2018 at Nkwo-Emeke market square and it has been in existence since over 100 years which they inherited from their fore-father Ezeulukwu to it's children Umuochmm, Akaolovo, Umuakuru, Okwu emeke, Ezedibia, Ezeogba, Ubowalla, Uboegbeelu, Azaraowalla, Azara-Egbeelu which made up the autonomous communities of Emekuku in Owerri-North local government area of Imo state.
According to the chief priest of uguzo cultural festival Oha George Nnadi said it is a unique culture used to co-habit man and his environment to crave our lack of societal values and norms in our present day future generations. Then went further to announce an abiding principle standing as God's commandment given to moses of old testament at mount sinai, which was transcribed to the unique glance discovery of Emekuku ofo-iri town at Ugwu Okiatta Nkwo hill with the protection of Ala-Ukwu Emeke deity. But the laws are no fighting with your brother nor inflicting injuries on your brother, Taking your brother to court or police over land matters or any other case is not allowed, Burying of the dead is always on a quiet mood but after the uguzo festival then every other right can now be accorded to the dead.
But the event will last for 20 days before it will come to an end which is known as paarapara done by Okwu-emeke.
The Uguzo chief priest visited an ancient Ikpa's family at Umuakauru where he was accepted and entertained before proceeding to Ala-Ukwu emeke deity shrine. Although out of ten communities of Emekuku two communities Ubowalla and Uboegbeelu don't participate because they mis-interpreted the proverb given by their fore-father Ezeulukwu to come earlier meaning " nwuru ovu na aka bia " but they went for hunting of birds but before they could arrive they Uguzo event have been shared to eight communities present at Nkwo-Emeke they include Umu-Ochmm, Okwu-Emeke, Umu-Akuru, Akalolovo, Azara-Owalla, Azara-Egbeelu, Ezeogba, Ezedibia
Professor Valen Obinna the chairman of Uguzo cultural festival 2018 in his speech thanked all sons and daughters of Emekuku for their support, but encouraged them to have more gratitude towards their culture because it is their identity and asked them to come up with a good history book on Uguzo cultural festival which he will support but their is a book written by an Emekuku son Eustace Oparandudu titled Emekuku my town which valen was part of the book reviewers but said he will continue to give his own support even in the 2019 subsequent events.
The event was declared opened by the chief priest with the special feet stamping style of dancing to the tune of uguzo and colourfully dressed George material for the dress code.
