Chimeremeze age grade reorient Ndom Ubowalla women on waste management
Chimeremeze age grade Ubowalla Emekuku, organized an orientation programme for ndom Ubowalla women organization at afor Ubo market square, on waste management disposal. It was held on Wednesday 19TH of August 2020, as the representatives of the age grade members were Fred Chinmerem Amanze and Chidozie Onyegbula were the guest speakers.
According to the report received by the Drizzlersnews, Fred Amanze who is the president of Chimeremeze age grade spoke about the historical back ground and benefits of the Onumurukwa stream in Ubowalla, from his report the stream helps in environmental temperature control at night, after the heat radiation of the sun in the afternoon and serves as our major source of water supply in the community for drinking, cooking, watering of our agricultural vegetable plants and people go to Onumurumkwa stream to swim, when he was growing up, despite the Imo state government water board tap water scheme is not reliable.
But the introduction of borehole water supply in our homes have made us to neglect the stream with it's benefits and we litter our Ubowalla community with environmental waste from our various homes without proper disposal, which include old used clothes, plastic bottles and it is a total disaster to our health.
Some of the disposed waste are dumped in our farmlands, inside the gutters and the gully erosion at afor Ubo market, which all these wastes flow inside the Onumurukwa stream once it rains, and it is very dangerous to plants, animals and human health because of the inorganic waste materials disposed and Ubowalla youths are making every effort to ensure that the environment is totally clean through the monthly clean up exercise carried out every last Saturday of the month.
Comrade Chidozie Onyegbula who is the second speaker and from his profile he has held the post of Ubowalla youth president organization and studied nutrition & dietetics at federal university of technology Owerri, as well have held other key political post.
He said cleanliness is next to Godliness and went further to eulogize himself based on his political achievement, which so many people do not know about, but in the world today control of environmental waste is a very big challenge, so we are not exempted because of our population density, but there are solutions to achieve our goal and have a good ecosystem, which must start from our families to our tenants living within our environment.
But let it be known to everybody in Ubowalla community that there are waste materials that can decay and some that cannot decay. Some that cannot decay contribute to the growth of plants which include animal dungs, decayed fruits, foods and others will serve as manure to improve the growth and nutrients of plants, while undecayed waste are materials, when disposed do not get rotten to form plant nutrients rather it destroy plants and animals, which affect plant production every season as well devalue the land especially when people wants to build on it .
Also know that some of these undecayed waste materials if not properly disposed are health hazards to human life because of the chemicals contents used for the production, which are very toxic and cancerous, so proper solution to achieve good environment is to use create a waste back where decayed items that can form manure will be disposed in our farmlands and undecayed waste should be sold to recyclers who use them for production, which include iron, plastics, milk tins and ur condemn old clothes should be should be sold or given to charity organizations and prisoners. Our polythene lyon bags can be used to make fire as an alternative to kerosene, so that we could have a clean environment.
Ndom Ubowalla women in responses to the lecture thanked Chimeremeze age grade members for their good gesture to reeducate them on environmental cleanliness, which was tagged waste management and disposal as the promise to extend it to their families and neighbors.
But appealed that a dumping sites should be provided and most people who dispose waste at the gully erosion at afor Ubo market are from Uzoagba, umuakuru and other places that a security should on guard on that site or a barricade should be placed there with a write up to avoid indiscriminate disposal of waste at that place.
Then chimeremeze age grade representatives appealed to our mothers to caution their children against the high level of consumption of indian hemp and involvement in cultism because soon security agencies will be start getting them arrested so that the law will take it course.
