Egbu community celebrate Mgbu gbu uzo cultural festival
Egbu is in Owerri North Local Government in Imo
state , it is one of the Ala –Enyi communities
but have close a relationship with Awaka, Ihitte –Ogada, Uratta, and Owerri n’ichi-ise, Naze, still maintain an
outstanding cultural history known as
Mgbu gbu Uzo which started 200years ago.
It is been celebrated annually at Ogodo central primary school Egbu and according to H.R.H Eze Nnanna Orisakwe Felix Egbukole (Ochoronma v of Egbu Autonomous community ) said before the celebration of Mgbu gbu Uzo cultural festival the community will go into twenty days truce and everybody is expected to live in peace with his brothers no fighting or quarreling of any kind then keep your environment clean even after the cultural festival and the chief priest is expected to
bring warriors for fortification at Otamiriri where the shrine is located
and the Mgbu gbu Uzo is celebrated
with cooked corn and fish with good music tune and dance from umu Ada Egbu and women who are colourfully dressed men dress in Ishi Agu attire according to the President General of Egbu town Assembly Prof. Sidney Iheanyi Onyeagu pleaded with the Imo state Government his excellency Owelle Rochas
Okorocha the Exceutive Governor of Imostate to help Egbu community to control the erosion crisis that is occurring at Umu -Ayalu which flood from Emekuku, Awaka and Mbaise due to on going Road construction calling on the contractors to fix the road with proper drainage system and the Mgbu Uzo cultural festival was held on the 5th of August 2017.
