Naze youths protest over job quota at Empire Oil & Gas super mega station Owerri.


The youths of Umuakali Naze in Owerri North L.G.A of lmo state embarked on a peaceful protest over the non recognition of the community in the on-going job recruitment exercise of Empire Energy oil and Gas Ltd along Naze by Aba-Owerri road.

Umuakali Naze youths were in their large number with placards of various inscriptions that reads, "Empire should respect the law of the land, give the host community our job quota or...".

  
While addressing pressmen at the scene, the youth leader of Umuakali Naze Youth Association, Comr Sam ND Anyanwu stated that their demonstration is necessitated by the non conformity with the global practice of law of local content in recognizing the host community in the scheme of things adding regrettably that Naze people can no longer tolerate the total disregard of companies within the community despite the concept of cooperate social responsibility which have been totally disregarded by the management of Empire Energy Oil & Gas. The youth chairman added that the provision of the law is explicit and clearly designed to enable corporate bodies support the effort of government in providing need of the people so as to circumvent youth restiveness but noting with dismay that the companies hosted by the community have all failed to implement the provisions of the law on their responsibilities.






Comr Anyanwu added that it is unfortunate that such concept has been relegated by Empire Energy oil and Gas pointing out also that the company has completely disregarded her host community in the present employment exercise.  But Umuakali Naze youths are only demanding for fair treatment reiterating that the youths have always exhibited maturity while venting their grievances in the face of all provocations as he however advised the management of Empire Energy oil and Gas not to take their civility for granted pointing out that Naze people are not known for violence rather peace.




The youth activist Comrade.Samuel ND Anyanwu   posited that the leadership of Umuakali Naze have always ensured a cordial relationship between investors and the community at large having in mind the economic and developmental benefits of their investments in the community and its pros to not just the state at large but their community in particular hence, the need for workable memorandum of understanding between investors and the host community as he advised the management of the company to do the needful in the interest of community investor relationship.
