According to his report the Imo state governor elect Rt.Honorable Emeka Ihedioha during his campaign promise to restore the demolished markets once he is elected as the governor of Imo state.
The committee have been set up led by Henry Onwukwe who is the chairman and Leonard Osuji known as (Ebube Agu) is a member of the committee.
On the 15th of May 2019, the members of the committee and the traditional rulers as well other executives from Owerri nchi-ise autonomous community held a joint meeting session at Oha Owerre town hall at Tetlow road where the deliberated and they unanimously agreed that the eke-ukwu owerri market should be rebuilt and modernized as the committee members with the traditional rulers went to the complex to ascertain the condition of the building but recommended that the building should be demolished and rebuilt into a better modern market, but the committee report will be submitted to the governor elect in two weeks time.
It was this same eke ukwu market that the present Imo state governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha was restrained by the Imo state judiciary not to demolish the market but he used his veto power to demolish the eke ukwu owerri market, and enaged the Ohaji militants to attack the owners of the market as the little 10 years old Somotochukwu Ibeanusi was hit by a stray bullet during the operation and he died. Which the governor of Imo state Owelle Rochas Okorocha denied of not having any hand in it but during the operation and from the photography evidence it was clear that the Ohaji militants were assisted by the police, airforce, as the shot sporadically and the Imo state international convention center was their take off point for the demolition operation which so many sustained injuries during the protest.
But presently some of the demolished shops at christ church, old township stadium and so many other places in owerri are been rebuilt as the administration of Owelle Rochas Okorocha will end on the 29th of May 2019.
