Demolished Nkwo Orji ancient Owerri North market




Orji is in Owerri North Local Government Area in Imo state, and one of the villages that made up Ala-Enyi Owerri town in Imo state, with an estimated population of one hundred and fifty thousand persons. 
It is a kilometer drive to Owerri capital city, located along Okigwe - Akabo express road. 
It's closest neighbour is Mberi in Mbaitolu Local Government Area in Imo state and the present Federal House of Assembly member representing Owerri constituency Hon.Francis Onyewuchi Ezenwa is from Orji and  Bango high life musician picocks music international band late Dan Oji.


According to their historical back ground Orji is traced to Uratta and it is one of the original founding father's that originated the present day Ekwemara Oparaugo of Owerri nich-ise autonomous community in Owerri Municipal Local Government Area in Imo state. 

The demolished Nkwo Orji ancient market during the olden days sold two weeks intervals and it is another dangerous historical popular slave market where sacrifices are made to appease the gods of the land.
But because of population out burst due to the siting of Government institutions like the Imo state university and privates businesses the market became a daily market and the present Imo state Governor his Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha said "No market should be sited close to the Government house and re-planning programme project of Owerri town tagged Urban renewal in action is the reason behind the demolition of the market .
