Erosion and thick forest take over dilapidated structures of Achara-Ubo veterinary farm
The negligence and poor funding in agricultural sector, which is been observed on the part of the Imo state government, have made erosion, thick forest take over the dilapidated building structures and farm lands of Achara-Ubo veterinary college allocated to Imo state government by the Emekuku community to uplift our educational system.
Achara-Ubo veterinary farm is located at Ubowalla Emekuku in Owerri north local government area in Imo state and it has been in existence for more than thirty years with a land mass estimated to be over five thousand kilometers and have common land boundary with umu-Ochama in Emekuku Owerri north local government area.
It has over two thousand working staffs, with more than five different departments which include snailery, piggery, poultry, cuniculture, cattle ranching, fishery, goat /sheep breeding and students are been trained on animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, livestock farming ,cash crops production, animal feed production, farm mechanization and repairs
Then students are taught pineapple farming, plantain farming, sugar cane farming, cucumber farming, cashew farming, mango farming, rice and tomato farming yam farming, and other tuber plants.
It is one of the agricultural resources God used to bless the south-eastern Nigeria states like our own Imo state and which do not require water irrigation like the northern states because there is an existing water source called onumurukwa stream which have a linking channeled connection pipe to the veterinary which was been powered with a generator.
But agreed and corruption from our past governors have killed the existence of the Achara-Ubo veterinary college and so many of this educative equipment's have been stolen and so of the staffs have retrenched without payment many who worked there do not receive salaries and pensions.
We are therefore calling on the present of Imo state governor Emeka Ihedioha who have promise to invest in agriculture to revive the institution and give same attention been given to Avututu farm and Adapalm or return it to the original land owners who gave it free of charge without compensation from the Imo state government.
